The Betar Movement is a world Zionist youth movement founded 85 years ago by Ze'ev Jabotinsky. Betar members played important roles in the creation of Israel. Today the Betar Movement is active in many world branches and is involved in Jewish and Zionist activism.

 The Zionist Youth movement Betar-Tagar together with Likud-Herut GB held a “buy Israeli products” stand outside of Marble Arch Marks & Spencer, Oxford Street. Both Betar/Likud and Palestinian activists held countering stands. Pro Palestinian activists have held regular protests urging customers not to shop at the high street chain because of its sympathies to Israel. Betar/Likud members distributed leaflets explaining why British-Israeli trade relations are of vital importance to the peace process, and an Israel fact sheet. Hundreds of people passing by came up to the stall and expressed their support. Some Muslim extremists were shouting anti Semitic and anti Israel slogans but were stopped by the police before becoming violent. A M&S executive came out of the store and thanked the Betarim.    |
